It’s all the rage right now, people combining their favourite sporting or leisure activities with a vacation near to or in the area of their activities. One of the premier leisure activities in South Africa due to our extensive coastline, amazing underwater ecosystems and an incredible variety of marine life, is scuba diving.
There are some premier resorts for this and all along the way, there are great vacation spots to visit. In fact, you can take a Divers destination trip ‘to die for’ starting in the cool waters of the Atlantic Ocean in the Cape and extending all long our coastlines to the warm sub-tropical Indian ocean in Northern Kwa Zulu Natal.
Dive the Cape
The Cape offers various diving options like diving at the iconic False bay where the Cape fur seal, striped pyjama shark and the rarer Sevengill cow shark can be found. Cage divers can go diving with sharks (In fact South Africa is renowned for its shark population) and you can look for mako and blue sharks at Cape Point, where there are deeper waters.
Whilst in the Cape, Rennies offer some fabulous vacation packages like 2 nights in the Vibrant city at Aha Harbour Bridge Hotel & Suites and if you plan to visit the idyllic wine resort of Franschhoek we have a fabulous 2-night breakaway to this gourmet capital at Le Franschhoek Hotel & Spa.
The garden route
Head from Cape Town to Gansbaai where once again cage divers can get up close and personal with Great Whites, which populate this area. Continue along the magnificent garden route, an unforgettable deriving experience and a vacation in itself, to Knysna where you can sip champagne and enjoy their world-renowned oysters. Here you can get a great Rennies package for a luxurious stay at our four-star premier resort – the Moorings.
Just at the end of the garden route, the vibrant city of Port Elizabeth awaits you and here Divers can experience wonderful dive sites, partly in the protected area of Algoa Bay and also on the Wildside coast west of Cape Recife.
Kwa Zulu Natal
As you proceed on your fabulous Divers coastal journey you will now head into the wild coast where fabulous diving can be experienced at Port St Johns which is the start of the sardine run. You now head into the South Coast of Kwa-Zulu Natal where there are great diving spots dotted all along the way. The best of these is Protea banks at Shelley beach, one of South Africa’s most famous shark diving destinations and great for an adrenaline rush.
Numerous vacations can be had in this area – this coastline is holiday resort heaven, especially in winter, so check out some of the great packages available right now on our website.
Finally the granddaddy of them all, magnificent Sodwana bay is a fitting climax to our Diver vacation destinations tour because as a part of iSimangaliso Wetland Park, its tropical reefs preserve a plethora of warm-water species, from countless tropical fish to Whale sharks, Turtles and Dolphins to Manta rays.
